The Breath Project Festival

The Breath Project’s Virtual Fall Festival features a selection of the 8-minute-and-46-second theatrical works, all created by BIPOC artists, that exist on The Breath Project Archive. The artists who submitted pieces to this living time capsule have striven to capture something of this moment in history.

Each performance of the Festival will feature different pieces from the Archive, as well as live commentary by TBP Curators (including Austin’s own Crystal Bird Caviel), and a Q&A with the artists, immediately following the performance.

While this Festival is free, it is important (perhaps now more than ever before) that artists are compensated for their work. Every dollar that you donate to this event will be given directly to the contributing artists and volunteer curators.

We are closing in on our Kickstarter goal of $10,000…

An Interactive Theatre App!

In case you missed the memo, Rude Mechs is creating an app that will deliver our original plays to your earbuds so you can perform them yourself with family and friends. First up is A Karaoke Christmas Carol. We would like to raise well beyond our $10,000 goal so we can add all the bells and whistles to make the app as dynamic as it can be. If you are already a backer, please spread the word! If you aren’t a backer yet, join us!

WHY WE’RE HERE

We are thrilled to announce a $13,500 grant award
from Austin Community Foundation and $3,500 from the Texas Commission on the Arts for the launch of this program.

If you would like to donate or volunteer or learn more, shoot us an email!

Rude Mechs is working on a new project called Why We’re Here. We’re building a piece of theatre with recently arrived immigrants–mostly asylees and refugees–based on their skills and experiences. We currently meet once a week at Casa Marianella and are working towards a premiere in April 2021.

Rude Mechs is pleased to announce The Department of Theatre and Dance and the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin will be hosting us for a two-year residency. Rude Mechs will provide students the opportunity to observe our work and collaborate with us via group workshops, mentorship and respondent feedback on student-devised work and processes. We look forward to learning from the students, being inspired by their work and opening our company up to them as they forge their own paths in the world of the performing arts.
