The Plant at Kyle

THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM IS BOOKED THROUGH NOVEMBER 30, 2020

The Rude Mechs Residency at The Plant at Kyle is an artist-led residency program offering art-makers retreat from the obligations and distractions of daily life to cultivate deep thinking, focused creation, and/or unfettered collaboration.

Rude Mechs is thrilled to be partnering with The Plant at Kyle to run an artist residency program serving primarily Austin artists from all artistic disciplines. The residency program launched in June 2019 and has served, on average, one residency per month since then.

Hop over to the link above and you will see it’s a gorgeous large house with a large screened in porch, an outdoor pool and an adjoining building with extra bedrooms.

The place is not set up for making art on your feet (theatre/dance), or for any kind of sloppy studio arts. It’s set up for being with “family,” cooking big meals, taking walks, and swimming – all of which feed the making of art. Specifically, it seems perfect for writers, composers, drawers, filmers, thinkers and dreamers. So if you are a sloppy studio artist or hard core mover that wants to come think/dream/draw/write/film – you are welcome to. And of course, everyone is welcome to do absolutely nothing but unplug and stare. We support that.

I loved every minute of my time there, absolutely relished the ability to spread out, make my own meals/schedule. I accomplished quite a bit and felt entirely supported by the space to be productive.” – January 2020 Resident Artist
