Pale Idiot
written by kirk lynn | directed by kirsten kern
PALE IDIOT begins on the outskirts of a town with a problem: they have an Idiot in their midst that is threatening the social order, and a Health Inspector on his way to investigate and eradicate. The Idiot and all those who might be “infected” have been quarantined to be tested by the Health Inspector. The Idiot is tormented on another level by a group of Hoods intent on destroying her before it is too late… Creation Support: On August 3, 1996, Rude Mechanicals hosted a benefit to help launch this world premiere of PALE IDIOT. Rude Mechanicals would like to acknowledge and thank our friends and supporters who attended, volunteered and contributed to the great success of our fundraising efforts. Their generosity and support have made the production of this exciting new play possible. This play received no private foundation or government support. Thank you, arts patrons! “So if, 30 minutes into the show, you’re still groping around for the hook, stop. It’s not there. Or if it is, it’s damn slippery. But if you can sit back and watch the dance, it’s an unpredictable, darkly amusing, and disquieting piece of theatre. It’s also winningly performed, with juicy, hammy performances all around, continuing Rude Mechanicals’ tradition of strong ensemble acting.” — Sarah Hepola, The Austin Chronicle “If you’re frustrated by theatre that presents no clear thesis, that eludes your next logical step and refuses to place the puzzle pieces where you want them to go, then Crucksis probably not your gig. If you find liberation in mayhem, in giddy weirdness, in a playful narrative that tangos, dips, and sidesteps as you try to keep up, Crucks might just be the high point of your evening.” –Sarah Hepola, The Austin Chronicle B.
