School explores theory, text, and language as sources for discussion and movement generation. Each class is centered on a theme (jazz, architecture, film, surveillance, etc.) where the discussion of ideas is extended to improvisation, choreography, and performance. Over the course of a 2.5 hr class, an hour of lecture leads into an 1.5 hr of movement research directed by TeeDee Simons and a guest lecturer specializing in the class’ topic. The setting is designed to bring all artists into a conversation that explores ideas through a movement-based lens.
June’s class explores the nature of improvisation between two crafts: jazz and dance. Through lecture, dance, and jam, artists are encouraged to participate musically, through movement, or otherwise!
The class is open to all, regardless of dance background. All participation levels are welcome. Modelos provided
